One of the most densely populated countries in the world, and also the most fortified. So much so, that these hard people survived nearly six months of being bombed everyday and night during WW2, and consequently the island was awarded the George Cross which is now part of their flag.
Valletta has an old colonial look, being one of the first deliberately designed cities in the world. It's streets are on a grid system, and feels very much like Havana, with it's worn facades, and vintage cars and buses. The midday gun still fires everyday here, as a reminder of it's past glories.
Getting around is particularly easy with English being one of the official languages and English style post and phone boxes everywhere.
