This is what I consider to be my art. Unlike travel photography where I’m shooting and interpretating what’s already there, with Peep I start with a blank canvas. The photos are up close and personal shots of models in their own environments. I arrive at their house or flat in the morning, chat, look around, go through their clothes and props, and start putting things together. It’s high pressure work and takes about five hours total.
What am I exploring? Well clearly there’s a large sexual element here, but it’s more about what we are as humans, and our exploration of inner needs that takes place behind closed doors. It’s about being whatever we want to be. It’s about freedom. It’s about balance. I love the fact that we can have public faces and private needs that take shape when the front door closes.
Whether you are happy or disturbed by some images, they are a celebration and acceptance of the beauty and mystery inside us.
